Behind me? What the...? How do they do that?

One more question So how do I do it? Let's say I already have a song recorded. I would like to add a sound that appears to come from behind the listener. Anyone know of any techniques that I could use to do this? Thanks.

Behind me? What the...? How do they do that?

Any ideas? Hi, Bruce. Thanks for the reply. I don't know how to put something 'out of phase'. Do you know of a website that can teach me about this? I would like to try it myself. Thanks.

Behind me? What the...? How do they do that?

In the Steve Vai song "Bad Horsie" at 2:29 there is a noise that sounds like a child crying or something like that for a second. This sound seems to come from about 20 feet behind me. How does he do this? I have played it for friends and they always turn their head around as if someone else is...

Exactly how much to cut mid-lows?

Worked great - Check it out. Hey, Tubedude. Thanks. Your advice worked very well. It opened everything up. I have a question. I also had to remove some in 315 area for the final mix also. Why do you think I have to again carve out some here if I already did it while mixing? If you want to...

Exactly how much to cut mid-lows?

Got it. I understand. I was cutting way to much in that area and it was becoming less musical. Also, I want thank you and Sonusman and Blue bear and sjoko and everyone else for posting tons of very helpful info here. Cheetah

Exactly how much to cut mid-lows?

I've know that clear up the low mud in a mix you are to elliminate frequencies in the 200 or so range. My question is by 'elliminate' do you mean totally cut those freqs out of the kick, for example, or do you just apply a cut? I have the Waves eq and I was wondering if I should just drag those...

What to do when you're out of processing power?

My mixes are usually 8-12 tracks. I'm at the point where I can't mix the song while having all of the plugins running. My machine (pentium 550) is optimized for audio and I'm defragging etc etc. My question is it common to mixdown a few tracks to one to conserve processor usage? I record my...

Double stereo tracks, panning and stereo image question

one more q Thanks. I'll try that tonight. Just one more question, if I change my chorus to be mono and bounced it as in my original plan would there still be a cancellation problem? I guess I need to do some research on phase problems.

Double stereo tracks, panning and stereo image question

more info... Ok. I am recording my guitar with a GT-3 and going direct into n-tracks. I have the gt-3 configured to send a signal with a stereo chorus applied to it therefore (I think) I have a stereo guitar track being recorded. I am assuming, maybe incorrectly, that this stereo track has a...

Double stereo tracks, panning and stereo image question

Hi. I have been cloning a stereo guitar track and panning one hard left and the other hard right with delay etc. Now when I pan to the left I'm losing the right side signal of the stereo track, right? It seems that the left pan results in me hearing only the left side of my original stereo track...

    Compress AND limit final mix?

freefilter question Thanks for the help, everyone. I have a question about FreeFilter. Why did you suggest using Freefilter to analyze but not to make actual eq changes and to do that with a Waves EQ? Is the Freefilter eq not good enough or what? Thanks again.

    Compress AND limit final mix?

Ok, thanks. Allright, that makes sense. I'll just spend more time learning until I'm ready to master I guess. Take care.
