Xstatic is right on the money. I seem to have no problem with the live drums, if the monitors are sensibly arranged, or headphones are used. It is the vocal mics that are pointed at the drums that give me the most grief in the mix.

I've done a lot of live sound, and a lot of recording of guitar cabs. To me, it depends on the room, and the sound the artist is striving for. If you are using a Marshall SS, and are looking to get a Peavey XXX, I'm guessing that your using a fair amount of lead and crunch in you playing...

Do you need 24ch,16ch,8ch, or 2ch of pre? Are you trying to track each performer at seperate times? What is you mic collection looking like? Are you looking at 24 performers? Sounds like a fun project gone horribly wrong for "political reasons"!
