need help with MX5050-8 reel height adjustment

If it can be adjusted (which it probably can), you will need to expose the reel table mounts, which are on the inside of the machine. Otari probably makes this fairly simple. I've never used an MX5050, or even seen one outside a computer monitor, but I'd assume you have to remove the outer...

Where do you get your cassette deck parts?

I tried to buy from them with a gift-style fixed-balance credit card (I don't have a real credit card ;) ) and it kept getting declined. That's MasterCard's problem though, and the guy who runs that site was good about it. This place seems good, but they don't have any pinch rollers, as far as...

Using Spring reverb pedal for your recordings

That's not a real spring reverb.

    plate reverb

I've been thinking about building one of my own for a long time, and that guide was my starting point. What turned me off of the project was the coneless driver. I thought about making my own by screwing a rod to the center of the plate, wrapping it in wire, then mounting a circular magnet...

A bit OT...What kind of organ is this?

You should have checked the back of it. There was probably a gold plate with the serial no. and model no. My Hammond VS-300 has one.

my Fostex Model 80: track one won't record?

I was just thinking of this. I have a Fostex R8 and it came with a bunch of sticky shed Ampex 457 tape (457 is recommended for the 80 as well, it's thinner). The previous owned hadn't taken good care of the machine and the rollers were warping the far side of the tape where track one is. It...

    How do high-end studios work?

I, and many others around here, use tape in my home studio. It's much cheaper than a supercomputer, two wide-screen LCD monitors, three interfaces and a control surface, and a lot more fun. Not to mention "that sound."

    Test tape

You want to make sure the decks have the same equalization standard and magnetic flux.

    Working in Radio

Thanks! I passed the test, which was actually all about studio rules and responsibilities, not technology. Now I'm scheduled to come in and meet some people, get some training, and then record a demo tape to see if I can keep the levels right. I'm living in Canada, so FCC rules don't apply, but...

    Working in Radio

I'm trying to get a volunteer position at a small campus radio station. I think I've got enough experience with studio gear to drop right in to the radio station environment. But I have to pass a test on the technology and I'm worried there might be some stuff I've never heard of on there. Do...

12 track old school Studio Mixing Board

 Awesome! You've got to tell us how much it cost you. Yep, definitely a Teac board. You could use it to record, assuming your computer has an interface with one output for every input.

How to transfer Four Track to PC ???

That's a good question. I don't think they have direct outs. But, I'm sure that each track has an insert in the form of RCA out and RCA in. So you can use the sends to get the tracks to the computer.

    Recording in an open room

If you don't like the open room sound, try recording in the bathroom and/or shower.

best way to incorporate a hardware compressor?

The preamp should be first in the chain for obvious reasons. Compressors work perfectly as inserts.
