Do You Like (Or Hate) Your Voice?

There really isn't a way to do it safely. That screaming/yelling/growling sound is the sound of damage. If you insist on performing in this style, the thing I would keep in mind, is to have lots of rest between sets and not over do it during your sets. Many screamers end up developing nodules...

    AKAI DPS16 multitrack

I'm asking $500. It's a great unit. has built in effects (including pitch correction) and capability of transferring audio to computer for further editing or mastering. The preamps on this are great. You get 99 virtual tracks to play with. I have the manual as well. I paid $1800 for this...

    All mixed up

Thanks. I've been having a hard time with getting the bass right. I think a lot of that is due to my monitoring setup. I'm using Event PS5's and the bass is pretty lacking on those. Also, I've never tracked distorted guitars. I'll give your suggestions a try when I get home. I am considering...

    All mixed up

This is my first attempt at writing and mixing my own stuff in nearly 4 years. That's right - I had a 4 year writer's block. 4 years! Let me know what you think. http://www.petessportshop.com/files/replaceable.mp3 I wrote and performed everything except drums.

Just shy of bad singer, anyway I can make it sound better?

make sure he/she warms up before your session. have your singer track with one ear on headphone and the other one free. Hearing his/herself in the live room (not canned) will help. You'd be surprised how much. keep a keyboard handy. if needed, learn the melodies and have your singer follow...

    Vocal Tracking Question

I triple track the lead vocal all the way thru without stopping and comp one good track from those three. Then I double as close as possible to the comp and push the 2nd lead pretty far back in the mix for fullness. Then add harmonies. lather, rinse and mastur.....er....repeat.

Noob Dilema: Buy Mastering Software or hire studio?

I really have nothing to add to this thread but I just wanted to say.....nice analogy. Honestly, that is the best way I've heard it said.

    Kick Drum sound

yeah. i agree. unless the featured musician is the drummer, he is usually pushed back in the mix.

Where to start with mixing, also take a look at one of my first mixes

I think the place to start is with your monitoring environment and training your ears for that environment. Make sure you are really hearing things the way they are. Listen to TONS of reference music over and over and over again thru your monitors. Listen to how your monitors color the sound...
