Thank you so much, that means a lot, and I told Megan (the talent) what you said, she said to say thank you on her behalf.
As for the "tone" I'm assuming you mean the fender rhodes piano that comes in during the chorus? If so, do you have any recommendations with the mixing? Or is this more of...
Echo Audio makes a 12 channel firewire interface that's just the converters, no pres, I've used it before and it seems to work pretty well

The song sounds pretty solid, the only mix issue that I hear with the drums is that the hi hats are louder and drier than the rest of the kit, as far as the snare is concerned, maybe just a tad too much, but the issue that it creates is an imbalanced sense of perception. The way my ears are...
Hello interweb friends, I'm posting this song I did back in March with this girl Megan, she's an amazing talent and it was a pleasure recording with her. So take a listen, I'd love to hear your thoughts, and possibly experiment with some of your suggestions.
Enjoy
I've been incredibly pleased with my Universal Audio 710 twin finity, the tone blending knob can be rocked back and forth until you find this sweet spot that just opens up all the frequencies. It's easily the favorite in my rack, and that's even going up against a neve...
Yup, I plan on that, but I also like to over think things through the day before, so that I don't go into over thinking the day of tracking.
Thanks for all the replies, I'll post to let you know how it turned out
I know this machine wasn't necessarily used as a recording tape machine, but I used to use a pioneer RT 707 reel to reel to send mixes down to analog, and for what it is and how much they cost, I would recommend it. It's 2 track, sounds pretty good, takes 7 inch reels and I think you can find...
Okay, here's a session I had back in March with this girl Megan, who was wanting a minimalist pop singer songwriter folk record. We tracked, mixed, and mastered this record here at my studio.
Constructive criticism is always welcomed, but if you feel you must tear it apart, then do so, I can...
Hmmmmm, this one's a hard one. You really can't get rid of some of those harsh notes without getting a re-mixed version of the track (possibly even retracking the vocal if the peak was in the mic or pre). I think the distorted note she sings is somewhere around the 1k range, you might try...
Yeah I was afraid of that... The only reason I say that is that I'm tracking everything to tape, and my console doesn't have a phase invert built into the channels... it's a little on the cheap side
Do you think that during playback I could send it into the line input of one of my preamps...
I just recorded this last weekend with an 8 track. It was a bit of a challenge trying to get the full drum kit, an acoustic guitar, an electric, 3 vocalists, a violinist, and to top it all off... they wanted to do it live.
And I've never had so much fun in a recording session
I looooooooove analog
for these reasons
1. My artists consistently ask for it
2. I trust the mechanical tape machine more than the computer box
3. It just sounds better to me
4. It brings out the presence and quality of my ribbon mics (and I looooooove my ribbons)
5. Studys show that the...
The set up that I've recently fallen in love with is a small diaphragm condenser mic (AKG perception 170) close to the 12th fret pointing towards the body of the guitar, with a large diaphragm condenser (Rode NT1) about 1 to three feet away from the body of the guitar. Catch the DI signal if...
