Hi, I'm working in my home studio with a Studio project B1 which I like on male vocal recording. But on female vocal I find it too harsh on the high. Some recommand me to go with the Blue Spark or the Bluebird for female vocal. What would you recommand me for around 400$ max microphone? I mainly do Rock music. If you have sound sample it would be great.

Thanks

Martin

MK219/319 or Neumann TLM193. Some more microphones without the hyped highs. :)

The best mic I have under $400 is the CAD Equitek e100s. But if you're willing to experiment, a Cascade ribbon mic is affordable and really adds some body to a voice. But you can't get too close to it!

I agree with Steenamaroo. Oktava MK319. This mic is one of my go-to's for female vocals, from contralto to mezzo-soprano. In blind tests, it has been selected over far more expensive mics by multiple female vocalists. It's among the best $99 purchases I ever made (when GC was blowing them out for cheap). It has consistently scrubbed off the harsh highs you are referring to. Note- mine is one of the real Russian ones. The Chinese knock-offs are perfectly good mics, but not necessarily for that application. They sound like the Chinese mics that they are.
