Behringer X32

Hi guys,

We have just taken delivery of a nice shiny new Behringer X32..... Ummmm what can i say apart from its good, very good in fact.
Ok it doesnt quite sound like our Midas XL3 nor even a Venice but its miles ahead a Yam LS9.

The problem i am sure we we find is it has the ''B'' word on it and no matter how good it might be its not going to to rider friendly.

So why did we buy it then you may ask. That's simple, the £1700 price tag makes this desk the best on the market for the money and as long as it doesn't crash or go silly on us we will buy the smaller X32 16 channel as well.

I guess only time will tell.

WOW!

Am sure glad that I've held off for a little while .....

Everyone out there (except GC ) Is now advertising an X32 at the normal price and is either throwing in for FREE!! a touring case or the S16 stage box.
That's a $500. value on the road case and $800. on the S16 stage box.

I wounder what I'll get for free if I hold off for an other few months? :D

I had no idea this thing existed until someone mentioned it in the "debating analog or digital" thread. I wish they had come out with this a couple of years ago when I was dicking around with finicky control surfaces and drivers for the PC.

Sell it all off on evilbay then go for broke.

No time to talk it up right now but ..... Tomorrow is the big day!!
Picking it up on the way to the show and using it that night!!!!!

Wow ... I started this thread just a year ago. Did any of yous feel a time dilation? :p

Using it straight out of the box without testing it and pre-programming a few things? You're a braver man than I, Gunga Din! Anyhow, congratulations and good luck. Let us know how it goes!

Yeah, it sure doesn't seem like a year--but we can blame Uli for part of that. He announced it months before he shipped it!

Yeah you can't swim unless you jump in the water, Bob. Two hours to go!

Yeah that's right we waited around for several months on it's releases.

How does it compare to the Presonus for ease of use? I'm planning on purchasing a digital board this fall but can't make up my mind which one. I now hear A&H is coming out with a Mixwiz size digital to compete in this market.

Here's a TEASER VIDEO from Allen & Heath.

They're very careful not to let you see anything really useful but I'm very curious to know what we'll find out on the 11th!

Personal opinion between the Presonus and the x32 is that, without motorised faders, I wouldn't touch the Presonus with a bargepole. They've given away one of the biggest attraction of a digital board by leaving them off. It might not be quite so serious if you use it purely in a studio and not for live--but even there it's a feature I use all the time when mixing. (For example, I have my system preset so the faders are mics when recording and track outputs when listening back--with the motorised faders moving as I hit the presets.)

To each their own but I was very impressed by the x32 when I mixed on it--and rejected the Presonus as "not suitable for purpose" after trying it.

Hey Tomm and Bob -

The X32 is simply an unbelievable product! Work flow is just simple, straight forward and is just what one would expect from a console. - unlike the presonus. There were hardly a sub page to be found.

As stated I used it right out the box so far for two show with nothing more than the very limited Quick start guide that comes with the console (70 page user manual is down loadable on line). I would have recorded the shows but I didn't have a USB memory stick while on the road this weekend and wasn't about to purchase an other one for having 4 or 5 dozen back at the shop. That and the shows weren't my cup of tea. :p But would have been interesting to try out that function, there will be plenty of time for that though with the summer festival season at the front door now.

Can't wait to see how it is in the studio as well!

Used a copper snake and will be picking up two stage boxes next week along with 100 meters of CAT5 cable.
The onboard effects alone are possibly worth the price of the console - Very nice. So the FOH racks are soon to be gone. All of the onboard processing was easy to use and sure did the trick.

I did use a Klark Teknik duel 31 band EQ outboard unit on the main outputs and was able to A/B between having it inline and not. I did like the warmth that the analog EQ added. Though could have live without it very happily.

MORE TO COME.

Cool! Your experiences mirror mine very closely--the only issue that caused some head scratching for me was setting the input and output routings (because I didn't want to use the default. Once I got to mixing it was totally intuitive.

I look forward to your "More to Come".

By the way, you'll be interested to hear that you're supporting the Nazis. Over on the Theatre Sound mailing list there's also an x32 topic and a usually helpful and sane contributor has let rip with a crazy (and out of character) rant about the evils of Behringer, how any users are supporting crooks and driving jobs away from real workers, then ending with a claim that buyers are supporting Nazis. I can figuratively see everyone backing off slowing and calling the internet men in white coats!

Now that's just weird.
Post a link to that theatre sound contributor's rant, Bob. Am just curious.

It's an email mailing list, not a web site so I can't do a link--but I'll PM you a copy. (Best not cut and paste it in here as I'm not sure about copyright etc.)
