Finally I have something to contribute with. Yes, the jongleurs were performers in the middle ages. They often performed for money and is by many regarded as the first buskers which makes it highly relevant for any musician. I wrote my masters thesis on busking in Australia so I should know
I've busked (in Australia) precisely twice from memory... I doubt I made it into your thesis!
We were having the usual to and fro about names, and Rich, the other guy, came up with The Jongleurs and it was better than anything I had... although no-one here has a clue about what a jongleur is... he's English and picked the name up from the comedy club chain over there..
Makes a good talking point at gigs though.
And I pronounce it as a French word with a soft J and emphasis on the second syllable, but Rich tends to call us the Jong-gel-errs - hard J hard g and emphasis on first syllable...
Money! I wish..... a $25 bar voucher at the Clovelly Hotel is as good as it gets these days... but fun anyway...
