Using AI to remix old 4track

I don’t get it - why use AI when you could just isolate the tracks and remix to your hearts content.

I got new hifi speakers recently. Well my first hifi speakers. And this mix fills out nicely on them. My mixes sound awful on them. Anyway, I believe he just did it to see what he could do with the tech. He isolated the tracks from a stereo master I think. So he ended up with however many tracks. The original recordings were probably bounced all over. He said he used that 2 track. So many tracks onto the 2 track, bounced all around to use the 4 tracks on the cassette then a bounce to a stereo master on cassette. So he likely didn't have any individual tracks anymore.
