Talking to the tumble weeds rolling by in here....
I hadn't fired up my early first generation VS840 in many years (purchased in 1998). I had some old raw stems from my old band the Bluesicians that I wanted to transfer to my current platform. First had to find the 100MB zip discs
from that session. But I did. Sure enough - loaded the labeled session disc in (happened to be stems for the song "In the Garden" by Susan Tedeschi) and it came to life, song loaded cleanly, all pistons firing.
Those old VS machines recorded in a proprietary format - so I had to play each stem into the Tascam one at a time. To do this - I recorded a sharp percussive hit, using my Roland R70, at the very beginning of each track that I wanted to move so that I could quickly line them up in the Tascam. To get that done I had to refresh on how to use this dinosaur. But got 'er done.
Moved stereo drums, bass, and the incredibly great vocal take by our then singer Stephanie Fitzgerald. Miss her. I was very pleased at how clean everything sounds. Each raw stem is dead quiet and super clean - especially given how rough our recording methods were back then.
All this - just so I can redo the guitars - clean the whole thing up - and surprise all my old band mates who I assume have forgotten entirely about that session. Kinda fun!
