Talking to the tumble weeds rolling by in here....

I hadn't fired up my early first generation VS840 in many years (purchased in 1998). I had some old raw stems from my old band the Bluesicians that I wanted to transfer to my current platform. First had to find the 100MB zip discs  from that session. But I did. Sure enough - loaded the labeled session disc in (happened to be stems for the song "In the Garden" by Susan Tedeschi) and it came to life, song loaded cleanly, all pistons firing.

Those old VS machines recorded in a proprietary format - so I had to play each stem into the Tascam one at a time. To do this - I recorded a sharp percussive hit, using my Roland R70, at the very beginning of each track that I wanted to move so that I could quickly line them up in the Tascam. To get that done I had to refresh on how to use this dinosaur. But got 'er done.

Moved stereo drums, bass, and the incredibly great vocal take by our then singer Stephanie Fitzgerald. Miss her. I was very pleased at how clean everything sounds. Each raw stem is dead quiet and super clean - especially given how rough our recording methods were back then.

All this - just so I can redo the guitars - clean the whole thing up - and surprise all my old band mates who I assume have forgotten entirely about that session. Kinda fun!:thumbs up::)

I did the same thing years ago with my AW16G. I had about a 2 hour practice session, with bass, guitar, drums and keys, but no vocal except for a bit of bleed on drums, and without my guitar. I dumped everything into Reaper, and added a couple of guitar parts and new vocals. It was fun to bring them back to life.

I sent copies to the two fellows that I'm still in contact with. Unfortunately I don't have any idea where the keyboard player is, and I think the other guitar player passed away.

Hopefully your mates appreciated the effort.

I've enjoyed relearning the song and experimenting with some different layered gtr parts.

One issue though is... once I took a closer listen with the original guitars removed.... the bass track is rough. Like a lot of timing hitting-on-the-beat issues. A couple of flubbed notes here and there as well. I'm editing and lining them up where possible. Considering punching in here and there to fix - but I didn't really want to go to that much trouble. But yikes - Kent had a rough pass on this one. I can't remember - but maybe alcohol was involved? I'll keep working on it - but not sure yet if I can fix this to my own standards.
