TASCAM US-16x08 set up issues

Hi all, I am not new to recording, but this is my first time using this tascam US-16x08. I hace set up everything according to the manual, downloaded the appropriate software, and am trying to record keyboard tracks in garage band. The TASCAM is picking up the keyboard input because I can see input 9 peaking when I slam on the keyboard (The keyboard is attached via a patchcord), yet no sound comes out of the headphone output, and when I try recording a track, my macbook does not receive anything from the TASCAM. Any help in fixing these problems will be greatly appreciated! Im working on a deadline here...
 
I assume the 16x08 uses a software 'mixer', like my US800. In the mixer, you adjust your monitoring - how much volume from each input, and from the computer.
Have you selected the Tascam as the audio input device in GB?
