Tascam 688: Track Directly from Mixer to Digital Interface?

Hi all,

Can I use my 688 as a mixer to bypass the tape recorder and track directly to my digital interface?

I have an Mbox Pro which has 8 inputs, but only 4 of which have mic pre's. I was hoping I could use the 688 for its mic pre's to record 6 tracks of drums directly from the 688 through the Mbox and onto 6 individual tracks in ProTools.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Ok. I've used the tape outs before to transfer cassettes to ProTools, but I have never used the group outs.

Do you know if you need to setup anything different in the routing of the tracks or does the signal from the mixer automatically run through the group outs?

Think of the 688 as a 10 channel mixer with 8 buss,(groups),going to a 8 track recorder.Anything you have assigned to the groups will show up on the group outputs along with the audio going to the recorder portion of the unit
