Yamaha MT8X
Just as a heads-up, you can also pick up on a Yamaha MT8X or MT8X II. Tapes made on either of these or the Tascam 488/ 488MKII are interchangeable since Yamaha basically "borrowed" Tascam's head design.
BTW, I've done exactly what you're doing. I initially recorded on the Yamaha MT8X, and then some years later there I was without that particular machine but with a need to transfer lots of tracks to digital. Luckily, the 488MKII did the job.
