Tascam 2488 boot up error message

I know this is an ancient thread, but in case someone should see the title and say "ah, that's the problem that I have", here's one potential answer. I just got a second 2488, and it delivered a similar error message re reading the hard drive. Since it had been shipped to me, I suspected a plug problem. I opened up the unit (you have to pull out about a dozen small phillips screws), and VOILA!, the plug was hanging out of the CD disc drive. I re-inserted it and checked ALL of the other plugs (gently, please), and reassembled the unit.

No more hard drive read message, and everything seems to be just ducky. (Caution: Your results may vary)
