Tascam 244 voltage questions

I just purchased a 244 that needs new rubber. When I took the back off, I noticed the sticker on the bottom says 240v 50hz, however there is a (user installed) two prong American plug on the power cord. The power transformer is this one:

TASCAM-244 Power Transformer.
Part No:
7635C001H
TEAC 5320013800
*****
Primary: 120 Volts AC.
Secondary:
32 Volts AC with Center Tap,
30 Volts AC with Center Tap,
10 Volts AC.

Before seeing the 240 marking on the bottom, I had plugged it in and powered it on. The counter lit up and I could hear the capstan motor spinning. I powered it down quickly.

To me this sounds like someone had the transformer swapped out and it’s set up for 120v now, but I am NOT TRAINED on this kind of stuff at all and wanted theguidance of people who know for sure.

PART 2: I see that belts are specifically designated for the 120v or 240v models. What’s the difference? Do I buy the 240v belts because that’s what this machine was built as? Do I get 120v belts because it’s running at 120 now? How does the voltage have any impact on what belt you’re using??
