replacing counter belts on tascam 144

There seem to be two counter belts on the 144. I can easily get to one of them by taking the back panel off, but the second one is buried underneath the transport block.

Has anyone attempted to replace these? Would i have to take the front panel off?
 
anybody still use the 144 at all?

maybe someone has the service manual?

Tascam is saying repairs would be in the 100$ range, plus shipping...i paid 100$ for this thing!

You should search this site for "DrZEE" and find his fully illustrated 144 refurbishment on his own website. What you're asking should be pretty easy and detailed on that site.:eek:;)
