DM3200: How to record into a DAW with thru the firewire card?

Hi Forum,

Everything's going fine with my desk and the sound of the converters seem
really nice (and the TC verbs)! I'm loving it!

However, my head has an issue with the most basic of things, and I wonder
if someone might give me some clarity on this point, and then a whole load of
other dominos will probably come down for me! I'm sure that anyone who had a DM2400 would now the answer!

I'm basically confused when simply wanting to record into Cubase through
the Firewire card, whilst maintaining the monitoring mix that I want. The
only way I seem able to do this is by sending a stereo aux from the
instrument being recorded to two output slots on the card. These can be
set to 'pre' fader, so leaving my faders in control of my monitoring mix,
which then goes out the stereo bus and into my cr/monitoring outputs.
However, though this works in this instance, it can't be right, because
there are only 8 auxes, yet 16 analog inputs.

So I was thinking that (like my former desk) I send my instrument channel
to a group bus (e.g. Busses 1-2), and then send the output of these to my
slots. The problem here, is that there is no 'pre'-fader pick-off point,
and so the main instrument channel fader adjusts any level you set on the
buss (in other words, settgin tehn optimum input level changes what might be your perfect monitoring level).

In any event shouldn't I be using 'Direct' outputs for recording into
Cubase? If yes, then where can I control level independently of my CH
1-16 stereo monitoring mix? If no when would I use Direct? Is it to do
with the desks ability to facilitate 'direct monitoring' as I notice that
option is now gone in the 'VST bay' options in Cubase.

The DM3200 is so cool that I know it must have this kind of thing
completely sussed, and that I'm probably looking at things in a
fundamentally wrong way, and/or being rather stupid. Unfortunately the
manual is awful - not only too brief but full of mistakes and
contradictions - such a shame.

If anyone can throw light on this for me, I'll very much appreciate it.

Happy Christmas to everyone!

Tascam gave me a beta 'unofficial' release 1.2 as I was making such a noise. The official release is now available from the tascam website.

Re:help with setting up dm3200

Hi, Everyone
Could you please possibly help......

I recieved my DM3200 on friday and ive tried making sence of the manual but with no success.
Im quite new to digital mixers so it might take a while to get my head around everything it offers, I do not have the funds for the firewire connection yet, so ive had to use ADAT which only allows me to use 8 channels in and out. I am able to get the 8 tracks in from my pc but im unable to record out to pc via ADAT i can only use analogue also im getting feedback.
the soundcard im using is an EMU 1212m with FL Studio untill i get the firewire connection could someone please help me out untill that time.

Many Thanks
Jepi
