im fairly new to recording:

how the heck do I:

track all the guitars/drumset/bass/vocals on my new tascam 788

upload it track by track into cool edit or Sonar, add reverb, compression, etc

what is the best meathod for this? basically I wish I could burn the 788 tracks to CD but not have them mix-down..if that made sense.

First, make sure you never connect the 788 to computer with SCSI, as you could fry both.

The best way to transfer tracks from 788 to computer requires the 788 to have v2.02 firmware installed. You can export .wav files to CDR, then import them on your computer. Doing it this way ensures everything will line up properly without having to sync the machines, as you would need to do if you chose to transfer track by track out through the SPDIF. (the 2nd best way)

DaveDrummer, you may be biting off too much of the learning curve at once. Each of your questions requires a thorough response in itself.

Do you have the Tascam CDRW-788 Burner? If not, you might want to get one and start with that. It's half the cost of Sonar or CoolEdit, and you'll get plenty to work with just by having the burner first. It makes your 788 much more flexible for you.

Let us know.
