Severe transients using Grungelizer effect

Hi -- I am recording via Firepod/Cubase LE and am using the Grungelizer effect on vox and it sounds pretty cool. The problem is, I get spikes up to 10db or so when the effect is in. I have compressed the s**t out of the vox in an attempt to keep the transients down, but they still spike.

Is this part of the effect, and I shouldn't worry about it?

Thanks --

Keith

Are you using the compressor in the insert position? If you are it is operating on the signal before the grungelizer effect. Try putting the compressor in the insert, and get your vocal nice and even before you even apply the grungelizer, than try using a limiter after the Grungelizer if you still have the problem (soft or brickwall limiting, whichever works best).

You could even move the compressor to the next slot after the Grungelizer, and then a limiter. This will probably allow you to overdrive the grungelizer better if you have a really strong vocal signal (and may actually prove to be your problem right now, in which case try the limiter, or move the compressor back to the insert).
