Audio to VST

Hi
I have a piece of audio recorded on bass guitar.
Is it possible to route this to a vst instrument so that when the audio plays back, it uses the sounds of the vst instrument.
In other words, I want my bass to sound like a synth bass...

Alternatively, has anyone any ideas how to recreate the bass sound at the beginning of 'Time is Running Out' by Muse!?

Thanks!

It should be possible>

I know that I have done it in Reaper. You load Reatune on the audio track, set it to send a midi note on each pitch change, then record the midi on a second channel on which you have your desired VST.

Hi
depending on what Cubase version you are using you should be able to convert Audio to Midi
in VariAudio . once its converted to midi drag it to your Synth Bass track & thats it
you can also tweak the midi file to change the Bass Pattern
