fading a track with Acid Pro 5

Hello,
I am trying to apply a fade to a track in Acid Pro 5. According to the help file, I simply hold my cursor over the right hand corner of the event, and a symbol consisting of a two-headed horizontal arrow with a 1/4 circle will appear. Then I drag the event for as long as I want to fade it. Well, the symbol never comes up. What I get is a two-headed horizontal arrow with a box. Can someone please explain to me what I need to do to fade a track?

For better control of the fade, insert a volume envelope on the track. Double click on the blue line to create points. You can then drag the points to fade wherever you want.
