vs 880 vxpanded

For me, yes and no. I own a VS880Ex (and a 1680) and kinda like both of them. To me there would be some major drawbacks in the plain vs880vx:
a) only four inputs (which means: hard to do live drums!)
b) no MTK (mastering toolkit). IMO the MTK gives the best compressor in the 880ex...

The price of the machine should be quite low now - so why not? If you spend the money you save with it for a pre and mic... But after all it depends a lot on your knowledge on mixing generally.

A lot of people find the vs family rather hard to use - but i think it has a lot to do with general use of technical stuff. You're not likely to use the thing efficiently without reading the manul (which is written in Japanese English and seems to be easier to understand for non-native speakers like me)
