I plan to use the digital out on my Roland VS-840 to my Compaq Presario 5030 w/8.4 GB hard drive, 64 MB RAM, 300 MHZ Intel Pentium II to burn CD's. I've been told that, since the Roland records in 16 bit, that I don't need more than a 16 bit card. I don't use MIDI and won't be plugging instruments/mics directly into the PC, so I'm assuming that the digital in is my only issue.
I'm doing my son's first CD and want the lowest possible noise within budget ($3-400). Is this reasonable? (He will be selling the CD at his performances and hawking it to record companies/personal managers).
Someone told me that Compaq's are not great at converting into .wav files. Any experience with this?
Any advice is truly appreciated!!
