I have a phantom power mic and a SM57 (non phantom) mic that I want to hook up to the back of my 1680.

I was wondering, in teh back of the 1680 there is a "on" switch to turn on the phantom power. if I do this, a current will run through all teh inputs, could this over time wreck or fry my SM57 non phantom pwered mic because it is getting a signal that is not needed?

thanks!

No. Phantom power, used for condenser microphones, will not hurt dynamic microphones plugged into the board.

Example - we use some Oktava condensers for our band, and the other dynamic mics include SM57's, Audix D-4's, Beta 58's, etc. The Phantom power on my Mackie CFX-16 is on to run all the condensers and no harm occurs to the dynamics.

Have fun.

it's better to have everyting connected before you turn the phantom power on, and to have it off before disconnecting.
Cheers, Andrés
