Hi,
I want to transfer some recordings we made using a Tascam 2524 mixer and three Tascam DA88 recorders. I want to bring them into Protools.
We now have a new (used) Sony DMX R100 board with three DMBK-R103 cards. And the Protools setup involves three old AVID 888's into three MIX FARM and CORE cards in a Mac G4.
My question is regarding cabling between the pieces of hardware.
I was going to use the 24 channel RCA to RCA snake I already have (DA88's to the 2524 board) and buy RCA to XLR adaptors to connect the DA88's to the SONY board. I found these for $3.69 each and need 24 of them.
Next, and this is where I need help, I need to run cables from the three DMBK-R103 cards in the SONY board to the three old AVID 888's. So I think I need AES/EBU XLR style MALE to AES/EBU XLR style FEMALE, to run from the DMBK-R103 digital outs to the AVID 888's digital ins. From what I understand, the AES/EBU XLR ends carry two channels, so I need 4 cables from each card or three 4 cable snakes, providing 24 channels.
Next I am running three cables (which I already found on eBay) from the AVID's to the MIX cards in the Mac G4. Which is a SCSI type end on the AVID's to DB25 on the MIX cards...I think, anyway they are connected and work.
So in closing, will this work and allow me to transfer 24 channels from the DA88's to ProTools?
If so, does anyone know where I can buy the AES/EBU XLR style male to female cables for less than my firstborn? I have a quote from someone local for $480 and I see individual 6 ft. Monster cables for $50 each x 12= $600!!!
I hope this makes sense and any help is appreciated.
Thank you.
