I've got the 24 track version. It seems like they took all the accessories from their earlier machines and included them as standard so their are all kinds of sync and control options. The manual (like many Fostex manuals from that time) is very dry and difficult to read.
One thing I would say is that you should avoid using that tape in the video - Ampex tape WILL gum up everything eventually and you'll have to spend ages thoroughly cleaning the heads and guides. If you want to record any new projects get yourself some new tape from Recording The Masters. I've used RTM911 with my E-16 and it works well.
