Any tips on recording piano?

I've never gotten a good sound recording piano tracks with just the mr-8, but now with the eq in n-track i'm giving some of my piano tracks another shot. Does anyone have any tips on recording piano and getting a good sound that doesn't come across as overproduced?

studio buddy

there is a program on one of the other sites, called studio buddy. it is a downloadable, self running data base with instructions on how to record abount every insturment you can think of.

type it in your search engine and download it. it will serve you well!

I got a great piano track (real grand piano) one time with the MR8 by just putting a SM58 on a mic stand pointing it at the strings inside the piano. Sounded good and full.
