Problem With FX Window

Hi. Okay, I just downloaded Reaper 4.22. I'm getting familiar with it. I want to add some VST instruments. I downloaded some, extracted the files into my VST plugins folder, added the folder in Reaper, and I understand that I should next click on the FX button on a track. When I do, a box appears which says "Scanning DirectX FX", but it's quickly followed by another box that says "Reaper has stopped working". I'm pretty new to this, and I don't have any ideas. What might be causing the problem?

Sounds like you may have a VSTi which is causing Reaper to shut down - I downloaded a free one which did that, so deleted it pronto. You should probably move all the new ones out of your VST folder, then move one at a time back into it and see which one is causing the problem.
