Recording tracks with effects...

Example#1: I want to record a vocal track applying compression into the wave file while the track is recording.

Example#2: Record real drums while applying noise gates same thing.

I'm running Cool edit pro 2.0
with a Delta 1010 sound card
and the mixer is a behringer ub2442 pro

just want to know if the sound card or the cool edit program
can do this....

My understanding is that Cool Edit can apply effects only to something that's been previously recorded. It can't apply effects as you track. You need an outboard compressor/gate for that.

When tracking I usually don't compress, it shortens your possibilities afterwards, so I don'rt have a problem with that CEP feature.

The same with noise gates: you can adjust them far more accurate after the recording phase. Once you recorded with the Noise gate, you're stuck and maybe you have abolished a great track by bad settings. Btw, I wouldn't use noise gates on drums, maybe a little bit on drums, but they sound unnatural very quickly.
