Multitrack problem

Total beginner's question:

When I try and record a second track over the first, for some reason the first track's data actually records in the second track. How can I get it so I only hear what is on the first track and not have it record in the second track.

this is a hardware thing. How are you connected... soundcard? mixer? mics??

Problem Fixed

Actually, it had to do with what I was recording with, and the windows mixer. Syntrillium support. Thanks anyway.
