monitor other tracks while recording

I should know this, because so many people here use Soundblaster cards, but is your card full duplex?

If the answer is no, then you can't do what you're trying to do, because you need a full duplex card to handle simultaneous playback and recording. But if your card *is* full duplex, then the problem might be as simple as a setting in Cool Edit. Here's a thread to look at that talks about that:

By the way, you got a mixer? How are you listening during playback?
 
well, funny thing...I wasn't even paying attention to what sound card I had. I just assumed it was the one I PAID for when I got my system built recently. turns out I have an ESS in there...not full duplex. I'm think I'm gonna have to raise some hell. thanks dobro.
