I am pretty new to CEP. I've been using Cakewalk 9.0 to record but wanted CEP for effects and ease of editing... but.....

When I go to play most wav files (oddly there is an 8 bit file that plays) I get a message which says "MMSYSTEM004 The specified device is already in use. Wait until it is free and try again" As far as I know nothing is on. When I play the wav file in Cakewalk, it plays. I am not sure this makes sense but I have dxmedias86 and Directx7.0a loaded.

Thoughts, suggestions etc appreciated. I have an older Pentium II with 128 ram and 300 mhz.

what soundcard are you using? and is the error in a grey box, a white box, or a blue box?

I am using a Dakota/Tanog combination.... I found it that I had 48khz "locked" in the software on the soundcard... so it wouldn't read the 44.1 samples. Thanks for the response
