Since I'm the only one in my band who knows how to use a computer for things other then porn, they wanted me too make our demo tapes, so I got a version of cool edit pro,a nd I have 2 microphones, we can record the Guitar bass vocals really good, but the drums we have trouble, most people I talk to went to a studio to record drums and then used there computer for the rest, what I wnat to do is use a stereo Y adapter, and plug taht into the input to my computer mic, and hook up too micrphones to the adapter, and with this I want to know if there is a way to use one micrphone for the left channel and the other for the right?

Thanks

As you realize that plugging into your sound card "mic in" will sound like suck.
I guess you could use a TRS or stereo split cable to try this. In theory that should work. I'm guessing you're trying to do this with little or no money, so you might look for something like Fruity Loops or PC Drummer Pro so create drum tracks. It will sound A lot better than trying to record them with what you have. If you have a little $, invest in a small mixer with mic pre-amps that you can run into your soundcards "line-in".
Hope it helps

oh well

We have no money, and we'd rather not use midi drums, we want real msuicians on our demo, quality is not a huge matter, it's either this, or all play with a little tape record recording in my drummers bedroom, thansk for your help tho, do you know where I can get a TRS or stereo split cable?

BORROW or RENT a mixer and some more mics. Do all your drum tracks at once, and do them right. or Hell, record your whole band at once... but DO get a mixer for the job. YOU NEED PRE AMPS!!

Oh, and the cable you want is STEREO 1/4" MALE on one end, and, if you use a mixer, it splits into 2 x MONO 1/4" MALE on the other end. Radio shack.

Yeah. Three mics for the drums: one kick, two overheads. Don't worry about a seperate snare mic (although for our second overhead, we're just using an over-the-rim Audix, which picks up the hats well, but..... never mind that), a pair of stereo overheads is fine. If you want an idea of what such a setup might look like, well, Merry Christmas.

Four pictures down, directly right of Emeric's Paul McCartney picture. I think he said those are C-1000s, don't know.

You probably DON'T want to set up the mics like this. As you can see, they aren't going to get much of anything other than tom. But when you get enough mics, this is a GREAT way to record. He (BigKahuna) recorded a rhythm track a while back that was REALLY well done.

Of course, I ain't got the link to THAT one. hehe.
