how do I transfer VS1680 songs to "cool edit"

hi,
I dont even know were to start,your time is greatly apreciated.

and whats your opinion on recording every thing dry(clean) then adding distortion and all other effects w/ cool edit?

also are there any effects on the that you would consider weak.

You don't transfer anything to Cool Edit. You transfer it to the hard drive of your computer, then Cool can work with it.

How to get it from your Roland to the computer hard drive? I don't know. What kind of outs does the Roland have? You have to run the Roland outs to your computer ins. You'd get a better response to this question in the forum here where Roland gear is discussed - people there will be much more familiar with what you're working with.
