record my own singing and playing the instrumental at the same time(with adobe audition 1.5)

Insert the wav or mp3 by right clicking in the space of a track and following the prompts
On another track, click to highlight R to record on that track.
Push record and sing. It will play while you sing along to it.

Basically you need x2 inputs.
Do you have a way to get x2 sepearte inputs into Audition ?
ie: A Mixer, or an m-audio interface, etc. etc. ?
(I was in your situation about 2 years ago. I made alot of trips to music stores, and asked alot of questions. I eventually more than figured it all out. This web site is also an excellent resource).
