Help with Cooledit Pro 2.0

Hey everybody! My recording setup is as such: A Fostex FD-4 digital 4-track recorder going into a PC, recording through Cooledit Pro 2.0. I'm currently trying to record a vocal track over another single track. When I solo the armed track, it records fine. When I record playing the other track through the headphones as a moniter to sing over, the track records all choppy and mutilated. Any help?

you might make sure that your Windows sound mixer input is set to "line in" and not "stereo mix". That can cause a feedback loop and really distort the track you are trying to record. Now I did say Windows sound mixer, the one that's in the control panel under the sounds and audio devices icon. There's one for input and one for output.
