Changing sample rate

I have recorded several songs (Cakewalk 9) using a sample rate of 48000kHz. Using Cool Edit 2000 I have converted the sample rate to 44100kHz in order to burn CD's. I knew that converting the sample rate would result in a loss of quality but I didn't expect a change in tempo as well (slowed it down). Is there some way to convert the sample rate while maintaining the original tempo. Please help!

I didn't expect it to change tempo either, perhaps there is just some sort of software incompatability. I would try adjusting sample rates in another program and see if that helps..

Thanks for the reply. I finally bit the bullet and purchased the full version of Cool Edit 2000 which came with tutorials. I was experiencing the change in tempo using the edit-adjust sample rate. The correct path is: edit-convert sample type which works great.
