Amplitube Direct X plugin real time problem

I just downloaded the demo version of Amplitube. I can record dry guitar tracks and then apply settings from the plugin but I can't (or haven't worked out how to) get a live real-time sound with which to record and edit settings with.
Any suggestions? Is this even possible in CEP 2?
 
I think so...
I can apply the effect after I've recorded it but do not hear it while tracking or playing. I assume it is actually possible to set it up so it can used like a POD, or at least be heard when tracking rather than applying after?
 
CEP doesn't let you apply effects while recording. You have to record the track dry or have an external effects unit.
