Really Stupid Midi Question

OK I am a self confessed idiot when it comes to midi, but...How do I get MIDI info from the program ie/ session drummer, to play through my monitor. I do not have a keyboard, only an Aardvk Direct Pro with card and a Turtle Beach Montego sound card. Now the montego comes with a 64 voice synth. Do I run out the cakewalk to the Montego for midi and then line out that to the Direct Pro? Or just buy a damn keyboard?
 
Either way will work. The aardvark doesn't have any built in midi synth, so either you have to plug the line out of the montego in to the aardvark, or the outputs of a damn keyboard to the aardvark : )
