Newbie Recording problems

I'm pretty new in the homestudio business. It's been a few years now
that
I'm recording MIDI's, but now I'd like to add WAV's to that, to record
complete songs, so I got Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.0. The thing is I can't
record
anything?!?
I have a midi keyboard attached to a Roland SCC-1 Card to get the sounds
from there and this card is connected to my soundcard. Anyway, although
I
hear myself (on the speakers) when I speak through the microphone,
Cakewalk
doesn't record anything. Of course I turn on the ARM and the RECORD
buttons,
but apparently I'm doing something wrong.
In the other software I used to record midi, I had to turn on MIDI THRU
to
record from my keyboard. Is there such an option in Cakewalk? Where?

The fact that you can hear yourself through the speakers suggests that you are plugged into the Mic input as opposed to Line-In where you should be plugged in. Make sure when setting the source prior to arming the track that you select Stereo Wav in and the Port set to Wav out. I am not familiar with the Roland SCC-1 card. The card needs to be capable of full duplex operation. I use the SoundBlaster Live! Card which contains a mxer. I have to select the Input and Output source in order to hear/record anything. Once you've armed the track, in Console View you should be able to cue up the source to adjust the input level. It you see the meter move then you know that you are communicating through the soundcard and software (Inputs are O.K.) It then becomes a matter of getting the output of the soundcard to the speakers.
