CPU slows to 1% for no reason

I am using PA9.02 with a Celeron 366 (oc to 550) 96meg Ram, UDMA 33 HardDrive, Win98

When playing back a project that has 8 tracks audio at 40% CPU and 10% disk, suddenly it drops to 1% CPU and starts to slow the tempo. IF I restart Cakwalk the problem goes away. I can't find any certain event that triggers the problem.

Any suggestions?

Three :
1 ) Disable everything windows is running except for cakewalk when recording.
2 ) Clean your audio disk and get rid of wav files not being used.
3 ) defrag your hard drive if you haven't done so in a while.
