Hooking up Alesis M1 Active Mk2 Monitors to Alesis Studio 12R

I'm curious if my current hook up is ok, of if it will damage my monitor speakers.
Currently I have a gadget labs wave 8/24 soundcard hooked up with the Alesis Studio 12R mixer. The monitor ouput is +4dbu. The active monitors manual says that this is a balanced signal and XLR cables are good. However, the studio 12R only has 1/4" jacks. So, I'm currently using unbalanced monster speaker cables to connect the 12R and the Active monitors. Am I at risk in any manner of damage by doing this?
 
HI, you should not be using speaker cable from your mixer to your speakers. The speakers are active so they have an amp inside the speaker cabinet. I believe the 12R does not have balanced monitor outputs so you will need to run a 1/4 " plug unbalanced cable from the 12R to the speakers.
