akai s900 sampler

I'm having a problem with my s900. On playback, I'm getting a scratchy sound... like digital fuzz. It's intermittent, but it's still bad.

Any experiences?

Is there digital fuzz on all the outputs?

That IS a twenty year old sampler - the problem could be the backup battery, the output transistors or any thing in between.

If it is something simple like a battery you can probably fix it yourself. If not, take it to an Akai certified repair man.

I'm pretty sure the distortion is happening during the recording process. the device is showing its age, I guess...

If its like a crackle then your recording too hot.

no. I've tried recording at level zero and it still makes this distortion fuzz sound. what I mean is, as a test, I hooked up a mic and hit record with the record level set low, and I didn't play or sing into the mic, and there's the fuzz popping in and out.

Junk it a get a new one. They sell for less than $100 on ebay
