new to ableton. How I get clips into the simpler instrument

I have played with the simpler gadget with a couple of clips and a bass tone, but I am unclear on how to get clips into it. I just recorded a synth clip in session view but I can't seem to just drag and drop it into simpler. The other clips were wav files I had on my desktop. This is probably a Simple question. The reference manual says to drag and drop, but is there more to it?

can you just export it to the desktop and drag it from there?

sames a bit of a pita but if it works??

I thought it would be that easy, it worked with one clip but did not work with another, I tried mp3 and wav both.
