Instruments in Ableton

The software comes with a drum machine and a keyboard type thingy. I just wondered, can you like download new instrument sounds and stuff to man these functions...

If so - where from?

What you are looking for are called VST instruments or VSTi's. The site linked has many freeware VSTi's, many shareware VSTi's and many demo versions of commercial VSTi's.

Provided you are using Live 4. Previous versions supported plug effects but not VSTi's...

Yup I am using v4.

By the way, while I am on the subject of Live 4 (I know this is maybe the wrong place) but I wondered how you got stuff to display in arrangement view. I can record and stuff into the other mode, where you have the blocks for recording, but when I switch back to arrangement view, there is nothing there.

No tutorials seem to answer my question.

You need to record an arrangement to have something show in arrangement view. In Live an you record an arrangement by clicking record on the main screen -- the one with the blocks -- and then triggering the clips according to where you want them to come in and out.

Then you'll be able to switch to arrange view and see and edit your arrangement there.
