The beginning of Metallica's The Frayed Ends of Sanity is the soldier chant from the Wizard of Oz.

Does anyone have a few pointers on how to replicate that sound???

i want to use different lyrics for the chant, so i am using my own voice....now im trying to figure out how to make it sound genuine

A pitch shifter is probably your best bet, then. Try chanting it high and then pitching it low.

anything else???? no chorus, reverb or anything like that???

Cripes, do I have to think of everything?

Experiment, and see what you come up with. Or wait for someone else to respond. ;)

Do a couple tracks of you saying the chant, a couple of you yelling he chant, and a couple of you whispering the chant. That would probably work. That's the kind of technique used to get that "We are the youth gone wild!" kind of sound. If you want a more true-to-form sound (as in, sounds more like the movie's chant) try setting up a stereo pair of cond. mics, then dub the part over and over and over, you'll probably need about 10 takes of it, then if need be, copy those takes but change the levels. The more takes you do, the closer it will sound (remember the chant is many men doing, so try to replicate that).

You could try to just do a couple of takes of it and then copy them a bunch and pan them differently, but I have a feeling you'll be happier with the results if you just do more takes (it'll sound more realistic).

Good luck.
