Which would you recommend? Yorkville vs. Wharfedale

I am looking at decent (read: cheap) monitors, and am stuck between two routes. I am currently looking at the Wharfedale Diamond 8.2 Active ones or pairing Yorkville YSM1i's with a Haefler TA1600 amp... either way it works out to $339. I am having a hard time finding reliable reviews, and was wondering what you all thought about this. Should I not even consider these? I am looking to spend under $500 and hopefully under $400. I just need monitors so I can mix sessions recorded in another studio at home.

well...

I can find articles, but I really just wanted to hear first-hand opinions and accounts.

my exp. everything is 100% out of the box.
the rest is your room and ears, you know.

sounds like you already have sessions and studio time, so you know what your looking for.
i don't have any outisde or studio exp., only inputs and my own tests.

personally i think its subtle differences between $300-500 monitors.

i just heard a frkn fantastic cd with a tune mixed on Behringer 2031a's. $339.
serious!!
reliability is a concern, but this track was phenomenal and done on the 2031a's. more of an Mackie824 copy-
skills.
i can tell you were to buy the CD if you want...amazing, this stuff was all done in HR land.

warfs

i like my warfs i bought for like 300.00 and have made some real nice recordings on them!!!! hope this helps they work for what you will need and at 300.00 you cant go wrong there very well liked here i did alot of resarch before i bought a pair!!!!

awsome deal

ya i payed like 340 shiped :( 250.00 is a steal  well i tell you what these are a monster step from like a home stereo speakers i used to use!!

I say buy em 250.00 you aint gona find nothing that cheap to touch these!!

Well, went another route...

I was in GC today, and they had the KRK RP8s for $150 each, so I picked them up. I compared them to the B8Xs, which seemed to be lacking any sort of mid-range frequencies. Also, for $300 a pair, the RP8s were a steal.

i had the RP8's at home and they were really nice and had a ton of power.
i thought they needed to be a shy bit further away than 3ft....
RP8's were always one of my favorite GC monitors.
$300, its a fhkng steal!

Hey, how did you got that price (250 pair)?
Iam looking at the site right now and Iam getting $169.50 for each

Wow...they must have just adjusted the price. They were still $125 each at the time I posted the link above.

Hi Fellas,
I noticed your post and want to apologize that we had to change the price for the speakers. Wharfedale does not allow us to advertise below a certain price and they recently requested that we adjust that back to 169.50, which the minimum advertised price they allow.

However, you can still get them for the old price if you use this discount code when you are checking out: wharf4less

Just add the speakers to your cart and when you are checking out, just below the address field you can enter in the above discount code. That will lower the price back down for you. I can honor that discount code for 30 days.

SRR,
Try the coupon again now; I thought I set it up correctly but had not. I just re-created it, tested it and it worked. Give her another shot:

someone else from Georgia pimping Wharfedales......cool.......

I bought the Wharfs from Proaudiodirect, and I must say I'm totally thrilled with the service and the sound.

Those guys overcommunicated, sending several emails in the first couple days after I ordered. Before I knew it, the monitors were here.

I hooked them up last night and, to my non-professional ears, they sound great. I can only compare them to my old monitors, M-Audio SPB-5s, and the Wharfs (obviously) have greater bass presence and just as much clarity, to my ears. And.... they're really loud if you want them to be.

So, excellent, top-notch service, a great price and a solid product - I'm happy.

Not trying to pimp Wharfedale, but I own the Zaldek series 2000s (I picked up a last pair of demos at Comp USA last year for $99 each!) and they are fantastic. Now these are for home entertainment, not for "flat response monitoring", but I love the product. Can't comment on models for studio use, but the consumer home speakers I have give GREAT sound.
Two buddies of mine in other states who operate studios for a living use the Mackie monitors and say they are excellent. Not for the budget minded, but thought you may want the information.

SSR, what was the total price, including shipping, you paid...after instant coupon?

I'd like to get a set of these too... I'd rather pick them up though, I have to drive to Atlanta quite often to work...

It was 250.86, and they are supposed to arrive tomorrow, yah for me!

Although right now, I have no place to put them, that is hopefully this weekends job.
