Which of these mics for drum OH's in this room?

The room is rectangular, about 30 x 15, hardwood floors, and a 10ft ceiling. I either have or have access to ECM8000's, AKG 3000's, or AKG C1000's.

We'll be hanging some dampening material, but I'm worried about too many reflections being picked up by the OH's. I want a somewhat open and lively sound, but the room is very bright and may be too much for my ECM's.

Thoughts?

I'd be afraid of the omni's but would like to hear them if possible (you never know). If these are the mics you have access to, I'd definately put the C-1000's on the toms and the C-3000's as overheads.

I'd use the Behringer's. A beautiful room like yours, you should take advantage of the room sound. If you need to deaden it a little by treating the room, go ahead and do it.

C1000's and C3000's as overheads are nice if you like your cymbals sounding like rice krispies over sizzling bacon.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I always value both of your opinions, so I'll try both out and see what works best. We'll be recording the 2nd weekend in January, so I may have some more questions later. In the meantime, I'll pass on the Rice Crispies and save the bacon for my cheesburgers.

These three mics are exactly the same mics the drummer of my band and myself auditioned for our most recent recordings. We put them all up, recorded and A/Bed them and finally went for the C1000. With as low a ceiling as we have (only about 8'), the omnis didn't give a lot more room sound, but sounded quite 'flat' and, well, uninteresting. The AKGs definitely have a flavor to them that can be discussed about, but it was what we had, so we had to choose. Both of them have boosts in the highs, so it pretty much depends upon which 'signature' you like better. The C1000 also hasn't as much bottom end than the C3000 has. Might also be worth considering. But in the end it was the high end response of the C3000, that made the decision. It just sounds a little too peaky on the cymbals.

Hope I could help,

David.
