Anyone know where's the best spot in Chicago to check out mics? GC maybe?

I'm going to upgrade my vocal channel and I really don't want to buy this stuff without trying it out first. I mean there are a lot of very helpful (and passionate) threads here but there are just too many choices.

YES!

Gand in Northfield, IL on Frontage road off the Edens.

Their terrible website is here.

Eli is the recording guy there. He's somewhat knowledgable (but not as knowledgable as 3/4 of the people here. ;))

I used to work there and all prices are negotiable. ;):D:eek: Their list prices are kinda high (for those who will just plop down whatever the ticket says) but will come down to GC prices when you haggle. The good part of the store is they pretty much give you free reign on testing gear. Also, don't buy from Bob, the manager. heavy breather. kinda creepy.

Like Stonepiano says, Gand is where it's at.

Keep in mind, however, that they carry mostly high end stuff. If your're looking to try out some budget mics in the $200-500 category, then I'd recommend giving Guitar Center (Halsted) a call and ask for Shawn. He seems to be one of the few guys there that has his act together and seems to know his shit when it comes to mics. He's pretty good about setting up mic shoot-outs.
