What's it worth?

I ran across a guy this afternoon who wants to sell me a Peavy EVH Special, gold color guitar. It's near mint. Pretty to look at but I have to admit...I'm not very familiar with this brand/model.

He's asking $450. Worth it or no?

I did play it for a few minutes...this thing has some serious high output coils but not harsh like some of my Ibanez guitars. I'm a bigger fan of 24 frets but I think I could come to like playing this thing.

What do ya think?

I keep waiting for the "do a google search" comment. For what it's worth, I have done a little of that but I'm not coming up with much. I hit ebay...but the pricing seems to be all over the map and the condition of the gear is throwing me off. I've seen a few where the wear-n-tear has been pretty high (with paint blems, dings and dents) where the going rate was much high than some other guitars described as excellent or mint.

What I have gathered is that the gold guitars are one of the more common units manufactured. I've found original pricing upwards of $900 retail but haven't seen where any used models of this type went for anything near that. I take it that they're not considered collectable.
